Books Like Breathing

Books Like Breathing

Romance, YA and Fiction reviews by an opinionated New Yorker with a caffeine addiction.

I'm working on organizing my actual bookshelves by hero name...with "Hello My Name is..." stickers.

Review: Facade by Nyrae Dawn
Facade - Nyrae Dawn

Delaney and Adrian were perfect. In a completely rip your heart out way. They ripped my heart out, stomped on it and fed it to a hungry kitten. But I was completely okay with that as long as they ended up together. It was a big, huge, make me want to weep for a week-type of book.

This book single-handedly made me fall in love with the New Adult genre. It killed me in the best way possible. I loved these characters and I wanted nice things to happen to them because they so desperately needed it. I also adore Nyrae Dawn's writing style. I have to read the first book in this series in a bad way. I can't wait for the next one.

Review: Geek Girls Don't Date Dukes by Gina Lamm
The Geek Girl and the Scandalous Earl - Gina Lamm

I am a complete sucker for time travel romances. I am one of the few that love them. And Gina Lamm writes excellent ones with humor and great storytelling. I absolutely loved that Avery wasn't a rich boy. It would have been so easy for Gina Lamm to write another Duke but she went in a different direction and I really loved that. He also had a bit of the Derek Craven complex which is almost as good as the Darcy complex. I can't wait for the next one.

Organizing my romance novels by hero name. This is a good idea. This is also a dangerous idea. TBR is currently in a state of overflow.

Review: Never Desire a Duke by Lily Dalton
Never Desire a Duke - Lily Dalton

I think this book proves that my policy of avoiding holiday books like the plague is a bad one. The holidays are there but it's not in your face and even if it was a holiday infested book, I still think I would have liked it. I loved this book from start to finish. It's one of those that I breezed through and even stalled a bit so it could last longer. I think Lily Dalton is one of those authors that I will follow. Her writing style is just my speed. She captures angst and draws her characters beautifully. She's almost Lisa Kleypas-esque I already have her next book, Never Entice an Earl on my wishlist.

I cannot tell you how much I highly recommend Never Desire a Duke. It's one of my favorites of the year.

Review: It Takes Two to Tangle by Theresa Romain
It Takes Two to Tangle - Theresa Romain

Gut-wrenching but still so very good. Theresa Romain is perfect at handling angst without going overboard. Highly recommended!

Review: Cowboy Seeks Bride by Carolyn Brown
Cowboy Seeks Bride - Carolyn Brown

In spite of my trouble with the chemistry, I always find myself really liking almost all of Carolyn Brown's books. They just have such a vivacity to them and this one was no different. The book was lively and interesting. I will definitely continue to read more of Brown's books even though this couple was not my favorite.

Review: Surrender to Sultry by Macy Beckett
Surrender to Sultry - Macy Beckett

I love this series for more than the amazing romance. The small town feel and the characters always feel extremely authentic. The secondary characters are lively and Sultry is a place I would want to live in. The only character that didn't really work for me is Colt's niece Emma who needed a lesson in manners and some discipline. I do not like bratty children in my romance novels...or real life.

Wicked Beat by Olivia Cunning
Wicked Beat - Olivia Cunning

Really wanted to love this one. Very badly. But the heroine fell way short and it was kind of jarring that the books were released way out of order.

A Wedding in Apple Grove - C.H. Admirand

I loved this book as I have loved all of C.H. Admirand's books. Meg was so refreshingly normal and I liked Daniel even though I wanted to smack him a couple of times. He just ran so hot and cold. But this was altogether an enjoyable book.

Forward Passes - Jami Davenport

I am not exactly a football fan but I really liked this one. Tyler was an alpa hero which I love and Lavender was very likable. They did bicker though. I didn't mind it but some may.

A Lady of His Own - Stephanie Laurens

Maybe Stephanie Laurens' books are just not for me. Too much mystery so far. Not enough romance and character development.

Wicked Intentions - Elizabeth Hoyt

Took me a while to connect to both Temperance and Lazarus. I did grow to love them both but it took a couple of chapters.

I will be continuing with the rest of the series because I loved Elizabeth Hoyt's writing style.
